It was a beautiful day today- so hubby and I decided to go for our first bike ride of 2011. We weren’t planning on going a really long way, so I didn’t pack a lot of water- only 3 cups between the two of us to be exact. We biked out 5 miles on the rocky trail, which is a hard workout as it is, and my bike tire went flat. We actually looked at bike tire repair kits on Friday night and decided we didn’t want to spend the money on it right now, but we would get one eventually. I guess we should have gotten it! We had to walk the 5 miles home. We stopped a few times both on the way out to view the sights, and on the way home to rest. We were PARCHED. It was 82 degrees and sunny- but thankfully there was a nice breeze! We were exhausted by the time we got home! But it was worth it- we still had fun!
But the best part was the calorie burn!! It took us 3.5 hours to complete the excursion- and I burned 1759 calories! WOW! Here’s proof:
The 5 miles out was the farthest we’ve ever gone on this trail. It’s not an easy ride for sure! I remember being so worn out in previous years at the 3 mile mark that we had to turn around and go home. We were aiming at going about 7 miles out until the catastrophe. But we will definitely go out again yet this season.
It was beautiful out there- even though there isn’t a lot of growth yet. I took quite a few pictures.
Beaver? I’d never seen anything like this before, you can see the stump, the shredded wood, and the other half of the tree falling into the water:
There was this OLD bridge crossing a creek. It was right off of the trail. I was scared to walk over it, so all the more reason to do it, right? A lot of the logs were rotted out and there were gaps along it- no rails on the sides or anything- but very cool! It was buckled in one area like it had been damaged in a flood at one point. These pictures don’t do it justice.
And then we had this:
At a resting stop on our walk back home:
I love being able to do things like this! It’s fun- it makes us feel like an active couple. It’s a GREAT way to spend time together. It would have been great had I not gotten the flat tire, but so it goes… it makes for a good story.
