Never Forget

It feels like yesterday that the “world stopped turning” on that beautiful September day. I think it will always feel like yesterday. It was a day when we realized how easy it is to take our freedom and safety for granted in the United States.

It’s been interesting hearing everyone’s stories of where they were on September 11th, 2001. We can remember the day in such great detail. It will be forever engrained in our minds. I was in drivers ed. in my sophomore year of high school. The classroom was off to one end of the school apart from the rest of the classrooms. When the class period was over, I remember walking through the commons and seeing everyone surrounded around the TVs. That was when the first plane hit. My next class was choir, and the teacher let the whole class pray. Life was different that day. No one was trying to keep God out of the classrooms on that day.

Life has certainly changed in the US since 9-11. But more and more I see people forgetting the way they felt on that day. Remember how everyone loved the USA that day? Everyone was proud to be an American and the tragedy sparked an episode of American Pride. But where are we today? A lot of people have become ungrateful again. We are privileged to be Free and we should never take that for granted.

Freedom should be treasured. Freedom does not come free. We all know that life can change in an instant. Although the United States is diverse, we must become One. We are Americans. We must be PROUD to be Americans. We must love our country, or at least the American ideal, and do our part in preserving liberty. I hear so many people talk about how great other nations are and how terrible America is. I hope they realize that they can talk that way only because they have freedom of speech due to this great country of ours. No matter your opinion on American politics- we must love America because she makes us Free.

NEVER FORGET 9-11-2001.
