Ideas for the Thankful Healthy Blogger 5K

I’m starting to think about the Thankful Healthy Blogger 5K again this year and would like your opinions.

For anyone new to the blog, this is an annual virtual 5K that I host.  This will be the fourth year! And I do plan to host it again this year. It’s a fun event with prizes that is held on Thanksgiving Day—in an effort to keep us out of a food coma and get some exercise in.

In previous years, I have had prize packs to give away.  Last year, quite a few sponsors generously donated prizes. I always came up with one big prize pack of items that I provided with my own money too.

But I got to thinking—would all of you like prize packs or would you like gift cards as prizes? If gift cards, would you like one big ($100 or so) gift card to one winner or break them up into smaller amounts with more winners.

I am one to prepare ahead—which is why I’m asking this far in advance!

Any other ideas to make this 5K better than all of the last?  Last year, someone suggested that t-shirts be made for the event—would you buy one? I’m not sure how much something like that costs—but what would be the avg. price you’d be willing to pay?

Let me know your thoughts!

  1. I vote for one gift card.

As far as t-shirts, I probably would not buy one, but if I did I think $10 or under would be a reasonable cost. We had some made for a cancer event at work at they were $5.00/each (we sold them at the cost we paid for them).

  2. Would gift cards be able to be used outside of the U.S?
    I would probably buy a t-shirt :) I'd say 10-15 dollars

  4. I think the gift card is a good idea. A place like Target or Old Navy (For the cute workout clothes lol) A place that most people have near them in the country.

I love your virtual 5k & would do it without any prizes hehe - I am not sure about the T-shirts - you do not want to spend $ and then not have them sell.

I nominated you for an award :) Check out my post from Sunday http://www.ashsrightdirection.com/2013/09/sunshine-award.html

  5. We'll do it again, no matter what the prizes are, although it seems like several different gift cards would be fun. T-shirts would be fun, but not sure if we would buy them.
Which reminds me, I never received my prize from last year!? Strange!

    Thanks for hosting it! :)

  6. I love the virtual 5k and plan to bike or walk again. I would make several smaller prizes. I am banning t-shirts from life (too many), but others may like them.

  8. I ran this 5k last year and loved it! It was my first ever virtual and I really enjoyed the freedom of getting to do the run whenever I wanted. I like the gift basket idea better than the gift card. If you are going to do the gift cards I think several smaller ones would be a good idea.

  9. Small prizes would be great! I would prefer a medal over a t-shirt!

  11. As technology become advanced people become too lazy due to which health issues are increasing rapidly. The research paper writing is providing awareness to the people for preparing their reports and presentations on health topics in readers friendly manner.

  12. I know the 5k didn't happen this year, but I still did my 5 miles and that made me think of you. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving and are feeling good.
