Happy Cinco de Mayo

First off, I met my 10,000 steps and found out I need a new pedometer! So last night I had about 8,500 steps and so hubby came with me for a short walk. We walked about 1/2 mile and I looked at my pedometer and it hadn’t moved a single step! And since I’m taking pictures of this thing, I just had to get it to 10,000! I knew I would have been very close to 10,000 at that point had it been working- but I still needed to see those numbers. So we walked and walked and I looked at the pedometer and sometimes it counted and sometimes it didn’t. But I did get it over 10,000- but I know I walked so many more steps than that- so frustrating! But the whole point of this challenge is to get the activity (and you can look at my days and see how much more movement I am making myself get!)- so maybe I’m just focusing on the number too much- sounds all too familiar to my attitude with the scale sometimes!

For breakfast this morning, I had oatmeal with 1 cup of fresh strawberries and a glass of milk for 7 points.

And then I spent some time reading blogs. I’m really excited that I’m starting to have more time for that now that school is about done. I miss reading your blogs!
But I had one more final today and I had to study for this one. So I brewed a cup of coffee and added 1 Tbs. creamer for 1 point- and sipped on that while studying.

I realized that my WI yesterday was the 1st of the month, so I documented it on my monthly weigh in page. I realized that I gained 1.2 lbs. in the month of April and have not lost weight since February, since I am actually up above my March WI too. But I have lost 6 lbs. so far this year. It’s not a lot, but it’s a loss! Last year I had lost 7.8 lbs. by May and in 2009 I had lost 16.2 lbs. by May. Wow- what a difference! I’m thinking that it’s just harder to lose weight the more you’ve lost. But 6 lbs. isn’t so far away from 7.8 lbs.- all it will take is just a big loss. I’ve seen how my body works- I will be steady, steady, steady and then BAM- big loss. In Body Confidence, Mark Macdonald writes about set points. Our body finds a set point and wants to stick with that weight until we find our new set point. Maybe this is what my body is going through? I know that I can always give a little more effort also.

Mid morning I was hungry, so I ate a South Beach Protein Fit bar for 4 points.

You can buy protein bars online at NutritionFix.com.

And a banana for 0 points.

For lunch today, I grabbed a Arby’s Beef and Cheddar sandwich for 12 points.

I honestly did not realize it would be that many points- I think I was thinking of a different sandwich when I ordered it. But it was delicious and filled me up- and not a terrible choice. I didn’t get fries or any of the other junk I used to order with my sandwich.
I took my last final, returned library books and sold my textbooks. SO good to be done! I had to run a few errands, get Mother’s Day gifts, etc. I did a lot of walking today- across campus, in the mall, grocery store and a sporting goods store- but unfortunately- almost none of that was tracked on my pedometer. I left home with 405 steps and came home with 1000- yeah, I walked a TON more than that!
But I did pick up a new pedometer- just a newer version of the Omron that I have. I have nothing bad to say about this brand because I’ve had my pedometer for a few years and it’s worked so well up until yesterday! But I like my new one- and it’s working- so that’s a plus! Winking smile
I stopped at GNC because I’ve been looking for multi-vitamins that are gelcaps because I read that tablets don’t dissolve. Well, I found some on clearance!

And they sold me on coconut water… 99 cents a bottle didn’t seem so bad and she recommended I try every flavor. lol

We will use these on our next long bike ride.
I also found some oats for a good deal!

When I got home, I headed out for a walk. I walked for 1 hour 30 seconds and burned 345 calories. Total distance was 3.2 miles. I earned 6,705 steps on this walk- so that was good!
I was really hungry when I got home from my walk, so I whipped up a green smoothie and also ate an egg white for 1 point total.

Someone recently asked how I make my green smoothies- you can check out my recipe here!
For supper, I made burritos. I had 2 on a bed of lettuce with tomatoes, Greek yogurt, salsa and guacamole for 5 points.

What a low point meal! I also had Baked Tostitos and guacamole for 6 points.
5511 015
The perfect Cinco de Mayo supper.
And for dessert, I had a serving of Chocolate Peanut butter ice cream for 5 points.

I used 8 weekly points today. Now it’s time to relax and start working on de-stressing now that school is FINALLY over for the semester. I guess maybe I shouldn’t call that work… it sounds stressful that way.

  1. Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Great job on walking the 10,000 even though the pedometer wasn't working and you knew you walked more. It takes a lot to keep going even though you already accomplished your goal for the day.
