RevAbs is an fitness program brought to you from Beachbody, the makers of P90X. It is a 90 day program designed to, “burn off the fat and give you a six-pack in just 90 days.” Brett Hoebel designed the workout using Abcentrics, to work your abs from 6 different angles. He shows you how to “fire your abs” through every move to make each move more effective. Some of the moves are based on the Brazilian martial art, Capoeira.
The RevAbs program promises great rewards. Like any promises made to transform your body in 90 days, you would have to be fairly fit at the beginning. Sorry, but this is not going to give you abs if you are overweight and obese right now. Remember Michael in Biggest Loser Season 9, the 526 lb man, when he lost a few pounds and the beginning of the season and asked if everyone could see his abs- same concept. So I didn’t go into this workout with the high expectations that RevAbs was setting. Let’s be realistic, right? But I do look forward to trying this workout for 90 days straight when I am at that fitness level where my abs will be showing because it is a great workout. If you’re already at that place, I’m sure you would love this workout!
RevAbs includes 8 dvds with 9 unique workouts. One of the best parts is that there is a dvd that explains all of the moves so that you can learn how to do them before the workout and also teaches you how to fire your abs.
So what did I think?
The workouts were different and fun. I had never heard of Capoeira before this workout, and incorporating some of the moves, like Balanca was fun! But most importantly, the workout gives you a good calorie burn. I especially like how the workout incorporates cardio and strength to make this a powerful workout. The first time I did the workout, I literally could not walk for two days. I was so sore everywhere, not just my abs! Every time I did a different workout from this series, different parts of my body were sore. I was definitely getting a full body workout, so I felt like I was spending my time well with RevAbs. The concept of “firing your abs” is genius. You really do feel the difference when you do this- it really, really works!
These workouts are intense. I had to take breaks here and there to catch my breath. Brett Hoebel even encourages water breaks throughout the workout, where he himself stops and takes a drink of water, something I had never seen in a workout dvd before, but is so important when working out.
But with all of the positives, there were a few minor things that annoyed me, like when taking the said water break, Brett would say something like, “I need a drinkie poo.” I mean really? This hardcore fitness expert? I had to laugh. But the guy is fun to watch. I have to say so myself. If he did RevAbs to get the abs he has, this workout is doing something right (if you know what I mean)!
Some of the workouts are a little long, the longest being 45 minutes. It’s hard for me to stick with a dvd workout for that long, especially when a lot of the moves are redundant, although there is a spice round to switch things up a bit. But I found that I really enjoyed the shorter workouts in this series. Being as uncoordinated as I am, some of the moves were a little difficult for me to follow when doing different movements with the arms and the legs at the same time. These workouts will take practice so that I can learn the moves in order for the workouts to become even more effective.
Final impression?
The RevAbs workouts will make a nice addition to my workout dvd collection. I enjoyed the workouts, but they wouldn’t be something I would want to do for the 90 days in a row as the program suggests that you do, because I think anyone would get bored with anything after 90 days. It is a good workout that yields sore muscles and a good calorie burn! Brett Hoebel has you recite a Rev Anthem at the end of every workout to make sure you are working hard enough, if you aren’t out of breath and barely able to say it, you’re not working hard enough. This is a good test but also motivating, showing you that you have completed this tough workout and you are “strong and committed.”
“Rev it high, Rev it low… I’m strong, committed and ready to go!” –Brett Hoebel’s Rev Anthem

ReplyDeleteI would like to try this workout because I love trying out new workouts. I get bored quickly and am always looking for different things. I like the concept of doing a program for 90 days, that way you have a "finish" date to see where you've managed to get. I know I'm not going to have the six pack abs, but feel like anything helps.
