Guest Post: Win Some, Lose Some

I was contacted by Become.com to do a guest post for their Fitness and Health Blog. Below is the article I wrote, that can also be found here.

***The links in the post at the site were added by Become.com. I’m not sure what to think about the whole thing. I wrote it, thinking that I could get more traffic to my blog, but looking at the posting, you can’t even tell I wrote it, except for the link to my blog that I provided at the end. Otherwise, it looks like it was written by someone else, which is a little disappointing. Actually, someone changed the wording in my last sentence… (I show this below- not that what they changed was wrong, but this is my writing- not theirs). How do you know what offers are good opportunities or not? I could really use some help on this growing my blog thing!***

Motivation: Finding a Strong Foundation

Thinking about losing weight? What is your motivation to lose weight? What made you think about losing weight in the first place?

The reasons behind wanting to lose weight are key to sticking with a weight loss plan. It’s even more important to find a source of motivation that will be the driving force to motivate your weight loss goals—one that will have an emotional and physical impact on you.

Most of us want to lose weight in order to look sleek, slim and attractive, but is that motivation enough to lose weight and stick with a weight loss plan? More often than not, looking good is not a big enough motivator—especially if you want to make lasting changes to your life and diet.

As we all know, health problems related to obesity are on the rise. The complications are life threatening and serious. Wanting to lose weight so that you can go off of your blood pressure or diabetes medications is a much better motivator than good looks. That’s not to say that looking fabulous won’t come with the territory, but being able to live a longer life, to be able to have a healthy pregnancy, run around with your children or grandchildren are much bigger motivators to lose weight and will be much more fulfilling in the long run.

Being healthy is a great goal to set, but it is not specific enough. There are always much bigger issues prompting you to want to be healthy. Even if it’s as simple as not wanting to feel sluggish and tired all of the time so that you can live life to the fullest; as you start to make healthy choices, the way you feel will prompt you to continue with a healthy and long-lasting regiment. Dig deep and find those motivators!
