My First Weight Watchers Meeting

For breakfast this morning I had cheerios with strawberries and milk for 4 points.

Since I had the WW meeting in the evening, I knew I had to get my 30 Day Shred out of the way first thing. Today I burned 203 calories! Wow—that’s a lot more than usual! I felt a lot less sore today so I think I was able to push it a little harder.

I sipped on green tea all morning for 0 points.

When I work out in the morning, I find that I am more hungry. So I ate a slice of light toast with an egg on top for 3 points.

I’m never in the mood for protein early in the morning, so why not as a snack? Works out well, I think!

I also made a “green” smoothie, but the blueberries overtook and made it a purple smoothie! I used 1 cup spinach, 1/2 cup each of blueberries and mango along with yogurt for 1 point.

For lunch, I had a salad made up of lettuce, southwestern chicken, tomatoes, taco cheese, Fage 0%, and salsa for 4 points.

For dessert, I had FF/SF vanilla pudding for 2 points.

On my last break, I had an iced latte for 1 point.

After work, I had a little bit of time to read some blogs—I’m trying to do better about reading and commenting. It’s been good catching up with you all!

And then it was time for my first Weight Watcher’s Meeting. I was a little nervous and didn’t know where to go, so I asked a woman and she was very friendly and showed me where to go and how the process worked. I told the leader and the secretary my story and they were impressed and congratulated me. I had to step on the scale and I actually lost 1 lb. for the week—if I count that as my weigh in for the week. If I count tomorrow’s, I have a feeling it will be a HUGE loss. I’m tempted to count tomorrows weigh in for reasons I will mention soon.

So the meeting was great. The people were friendly (albeit I was the only “young” person there) and I felt like I could relate to everyone there and the things they said. I love talking about weight loss and health so it’s right up my alley! Smile We learned about estimating points values and learning to gauge our hunger before eating. All things that I can learn to do better. The leader asked me if it was ok if she shared my story with the group and I said that was fine. Everyone clapped for me and was so surprised and congratulatory. It felt good. Smile

After the meeting, I talked to the leader privately about some questions I had. I asked her if there was such a thing as eating too many fruits. She said there wasn’t—but if I find I am eating a lot of fruits, I should analyze my diet and see if I am lacking something else like veggies, proteins or healthy grains. So that’s good advice. She also said that by all means, choosing a fruit over something less healthy is always better, even if I am eating more fruits. I asked her about Weekly Points and if she recommended eating them or not. She said that they’re there so that I never feel deprived. So I don’t think things like, “well if I can’t eat this chocolate chip cookie then I’m quitting.” She said that you can eat them or you can not eat them. Not eating them may help “boost” your weight loss. I also asked about calculating AP’s by calories burned on a heart rate monitor—she said that she hadn’t heard an official way to calculate it but to use the intensity calculators like I have been doing. She was so helpful and so nice. I felt comfortable. It will be nice to have that knowledge base from someone who is an expert on the WW program.

Here’s the catch. This was the last meeting at the location that would have worked so well for me. Seriously, I walked there. They didn’t feel like there were enough people in the meeting, so WW is requiring them to combine meetings in other towns. There were 8 of us there, 2 of us were new members. How many are in your meetings? So that’s why I might just count tomorrow’s WI as the official WI. And also, I might just keep counting my weigh in on Wednesday’s as usual and not the weight at the meetings for my “official weigh in”. I will still be held accountable at the meetings—so  I think it would work out well that way.

So, I will have to go to a different meeting in another town—I have made the decision that I want to go even if I have to travel a bit to get there. It feels right and I think it’s the next step for me. But the meetings will be on Thursdays instead of Tuesdays. So what do you think? Should I count today’s weight as my official WI for the week or count tomorrow’s for my full week—and probably have a huge loss tomorrow!! (fingers crossed). And then start tracking my weight from the meeting that I will go to regularly or just go by my Wednesday weigh in’s as usual.

I’d love your feedback!

When I got home I had supper. I had baked breaded shrimp, green beans and cottage cheese for 8 points.

For dessert, I had a No Pudge! brownie for 3 points.

I still have 7 points leftover, which is just plain amazing—that never happens! And I’m really not hungry for anything else.

Tomorrow will be a busy day for me, so I’ll probably have to get up super early to get my workout on!

I have no opinion on the WI...that is up to you...you have to do what will keep you motivated!

  2. It's such a great feeling to find a meeting that "clicks" for you. I hope the one tomorrow works out as well! I did want to comment that there IS such a thing as too much fruit. Of course it's a better choice over things like cake or candy ;) but at my meetings there have been quite a few "fruit abusers" who are actually gaining weight! I think as long as you keep it under 5 servings a day you should be okay.

As for your question, if it were me I would count tomorrow as your official WI day if that's going to be your regular meeting.

    Just my 2 cents :)

PS. Your food pics are great and now I'm starving! Lol!

  3. I say count your weight tomorrow, but then starting next week just have your WI day be whenever you go to the meeting. Otherwise, you'd have 2 WIs every week and that might get confusing. Glad you liked the meeting!
